Modular Electrical Workshop and Office for Associated British Ports (ABP) Humber

Single-Storey Modular Building

Project Overview

Phoenix Building Systems was commissioned by Zenith Construction to supply, deliver, and install a single-storey modular building for Associated British Ports (ABP) Humber.

The building was required to provide a dedicated electrical workshop and office facility to support ABP engineers responsible for maintaining critical electrical signalling equipment across the Humber ports.

The Client

Associated British Ports (ABP) Humber employs skilled Electrical Engineers and Technicians who manage electrical systems, routine maintenance, and major infrastructure projects across key ports including Hull, Goole, Grimsby, and Immingham.

Their teams play a vital role in ensuring uninterrupted port operations, supporting the UK’s energy transition, and driving continuous improvement across complex, safety-critical environments. The new facility needed to reflect these operational demands while providing a practical and compliant working space.

The Brief

Phoenix Building Systems was tasked with delivering a modular solution that:

Met all relevant building regulations for use as an electrical workshop and office

Provided a safe, functional environment for engineering and fault-finding activities

Supported day-to-day operational needs for ABP’s electrical signalling engineers

Could be installed efficiently with minimal disruption to the live port environment

The Solution

Phoenix Building Systems designed and delivered a single-storey modular building tailored specifically to the operational requirements of ABP’s engineering teams.

The building was fully compliant with building regulations and configured to accommodate both workshop activities and office-based tasks, enabling engineers to carry out maintenance, diagnostics, and project planning from one centralised location.

Working closely with Zenith Construction, Phoenix Building Systems managed the supply, delivery, and installation phases seamlessly, ensuring the project was completed efficiently and to specification.

The Outcome

A fully compliant modular electrical workshop and office

A practical, purpose-built space supporting ABP’s electrical signalling operations

Minimal disruption to port activities during delivery and installation

A robust, long-term solution aligned with ABP’s operational and safety requirements

Why Modular

This project demonstrates how modular construction can deliver high-quality, regulation-compliant facilities for demanding industrial environments, while offering speed, flexibility, and reduced on-site disruption.
